| Tomato growers, can you help? | |
| AgBioScout in conjunction with NatureMetrics and CABI, are working on an Innovate UK funded project to create the leading infield pathogen detection test kit, to give you the ability to identify diseases and viral infections in your crops before you see the symptoms.
They need tissue samples (leaf/stem) of any diseases, viruses and infections found on tomato plants, especially the following fungal diseases, so that they can build a data bank of DNA to develop the tests.
• Botrytis cinerea – Grey mould • Oidium neolycopersici – Powdery mildew • Phytophthora infestans – Late blight • Alternaria solani – Early blight

| Controlling thrips this season
| |
| We are seeing an increase in thrips due to to rising temperatures and the migration of adults from cereal crops as harvest looms.
Thrips have the potential to be economically damaging to crops, and the damaging effects of thrips also includes the transmission of plant viruses and distortion, if allowed to persist in high levels. | |
| How to recognise thrips • A silvering effect on the leaf surface • Damage to the flowers and fruit where the pest pierces into the plant • Black dots above or under the leaf (depending on species)
| |
| We can help you create a comprehensive IPM strategy for controlling thrips. Please click the link below to find out more.
